The ABO Blood Group System

  • Antigenes are what the immune system uses to know what to "kill"

  • For example if you have the antigene A you produce the antibody B

  • If you have the antigene AB you do not produce any antibodies

  • You can therefor receive any blood type

  • If you have the antigene O you produce the antibodies B and A

  • There are three alleles:

  • I^a

  • I^b

  • i

  • I^a and I^b er dominant

  • I^a + I^a = A

  • I^a + I^b = AB (codominant)

  • i + i = O

  • I^a + i = A

  • There are some genes that code for the blood types: I^a, I^b and i:

  • A codes for A

  • B codes for B

  • i does not code for any particular

Rhesus

  • If Rhesus (Rh) is present you are Rhesus positive: R^+

  • Dominant

  • If Rhesus (Rh) is not present you are Rhesus negative: R^-

  • Recessive
