The plot
The editor of the Royal Gazette parks his car outside a hotel but he doesn't leave on his parking lights. Then a policeman comes around and they start discussing whether there is need for parking lights or not. Then the officer evokes his insurance papers and brings them to the station where he tells the editor to collect them the day after. He makes an appointment to come and collect his car. When he gets there, there is a senior officer waiting for him to take him to the superintendent. After he has told his story the superintendent calls all his men and asks them who did this to the editor. Then the police officer gets told off and the editor gets an apology. The officer is told never again to do this to a man of this caliber.
Examples of prejudices
Mostly in the way that the superintendent thinks that the editor is of better caliber than him and his officer because of his job at the magazine and his power.
Where lies our sympathy?
Ikem, since the superintendent puts him on a pedestal despite the fact that Ikem says that it's just his job.
Ikem didn't need to put on his parking lights.
Examples of non-standard English and discussion of whether it is a pidgin or creole
Example 1: "Na me sir"
Example 2: "… give the person a gbali gbali."
They are pidgins but the superintendent switched between english and creoles so maybe he's de-creoling his language.
